INSTANT FOOD

You can take the German out of Germany (17 years and counting!) but you cannot take Germany out of a German. So sometimes only a plate of good old-fashioned German potato salad will do. Beautifully waxy potatoes, diced shallots and lots of pickles, plus some sunflower oil, pickle juice and salt. Heaven.
Just in time for ice cream season: caramelised the last bits of this week’s sourdough loaf with butter, sugar and sea salt to fold into a tangy crème fraiche ice cream base for a repeat of the sourdough ice cream on the blog (link to the recipe is in my profile). #wastenotwantnot #stalebread #sourdough #icecream #sourdoughpraline
Every city I have lived in had its own telltale sign that spring was on its way. In London, there were the Japanese cherry trees greeting me on my morning runs around St James Park, in Rome it was the Wisteria draping itself over old and crumbling walls and here in Brussels it is pink Magnolia trees scattered all around town. I will never not miss seeing Japanese cherry trees in spring in London (and I am still sad I narrowly missed the season when I was in DC last spring), but these Magnolia trees are awfully pretty too.
Never a bad way to start the weekend.
